Agreed.  But, if you think about how transportable tablespaces work, it
doesn't really make sense to transport the SYSTEM tablespace.....I don't
think that's a limitation that will change anytime soon....

I think what he means is that in 10g there is no O/S limitation in
regards to using Transporatble tablespaces and one of the limitations is
that you cannot transport the system tablespace.

  I think what you're thinking of, is that starting in 10g, you
can migrate a database across platforms via RMAN, avoiding the need for
exp/imp.
 
  Not sure what you mean by "migrate the system tablespace".  The
idea is to migrate the entire database from one platform to another.

  I thought I recalled reading somewhere that in 10G R2 you would
be able to even migrate the system tablespace across platforms.  I am no
longer able to find a reference supporting this.
